The TT RS represents the highest performance classification of the 2012 Audi TT model line. The RS designation signifies Audi’s technical competencies gained through their motorsports successes and is making a return to the US in the TT for a limited time.
The sole of the 2012 Audi TT RS is a powerful 2.5 liter turbocharged and direct injected 5-cylinder TFSI engine. It generates 360 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque between 1,650 and 5,400 rpm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed close ratio manual transmission and standard Quattro all-wheel drive to optimize traction. No automatic transmission will be available in the 2012 TT RS. Audi claims the TT RS will blast from 0 – 60 mph in only 4.1 seconds and will reach a top speed of 174 mph.
Audi upgraded several engine components to meet the rigorous demands of the high performance engine. Upgrades include a forged 6-bearing crankshaft, reinforced and lighter weight connection rods and pistons, and sodium cooled exhaust valves.
Other enhancements include a magnetic ride, which allows for dynamic suspension characteristics, and a sport mode which stiffens the ride, enhances throttle response, and enhances the exhaust note. The TT RS also comes equipped with ventilated and oversized brakes to increase air flow and cooling, and prevents brake fade.
The TT RS also includes a number of exclusive internal and external design elements to distinguish it from the rest of the TT model line. These include but are not limited to the following:
- High gloss black diamond-patterned Singleframe grille with large front air inlets
- Fixed rear wing spoiler
- Contoured 3-spoke sport multifunction steering wheel
- Aluminum door sills with RS logo
- RS specific interior door handles
